Sport is not only game but a chance to keep fit and to socialize for people of all ages. Sport has allways been an important element of cohesion, knowledge and meeting among world populations. In Rome, ‘city of sports’, there are plenty of structures and equipments for all kinds of sports. |
With its huge number of gardens and parks, such as Villa Celimontana, Villa Ada, Villa Pamphili, suitable for open air sports and games, or its excellent athletics tracks such as Foro Italico and Tre Fontane, or its sport clubs such as the famous Circolo Canottieri Roma and Circolo del Golf, Rome is simply the perfect place to play sport. For the most popular sport, such as football, there are many football grounds, tennis grounds, swimming pools, riding grounds, golf clubs, children clubs and fitness centres.
Many important sport events are held in Rome during the whole year such as the Football Championship, Basket and Volley Games, and Tennis International Championship at the Foro Italico grounds in May.
Rome will be the location of Swimming World Championship in 2009, from the 18th of July to the 2nd of August.
For car and motor racing the Vallelunga race-track is only 30 km north of Rome and there are many important races there each year. |
