Rome surroundings can offer very interesting itineraries: Tivoli and its splendid villas, the area of Castelli Romani, where you can discover a lot of typical restaurants and last but not least the area called Ciociaria with its splendid abbeys, monasteries and medieval villages.

TIVOLI

Villa d’Este
The owner of this villa was the Cardinal Ippolito II d’Este. It was realized in 1560 a masterpiece of the typical samples of Italian gardens, with an incredible amount of fountains, caves, water games and water musical systems, today  it is protected as part of the human heritage of the Unesco organization.

Villa Adriana
This is the biggest and the most beautiful villa among the Imperial villas of Rome. It is located in a table land in the southern side of Tivoli, in a very well known area that used to be the residential area for aristocratic families.

The huge complex of buildings was realized by the Emperor Adriano between 118 and 134 a. C..

Adriano was intellectual, big lover of travels, Greek culture and architecture he took personally part to the project.

Many groups of buildings were built in a huge area (about 120 hectares), apparently disposed in a casual way but surrounded and separated by beautiful gardens.

 
CASTELLI ROMANI
This area is located a few kilometers from Rome, in its South-Eastern side.

There are plenty of beautiful green landscapes, panoramic views and small cities, surrounded by a Natural Park which is a very interesting and protected area.

The area is also famous from the eno-gastronomical point of view: discover the route of the “fraschette”, typical caves where you can taste the famous “porchetta”, a very small roasted pig from Ariccia, bread and “porcini” mushrooms from Lariano, chestnuts from Rocca di Papa, strawberries from Nemi and obviously wine from Frascati.

CIOCIARIA
The area called Ciociaria is a geographical area located between Rome and Naples, a sort of bridge between the two regions. Its funny name comes from a kind of shoes, so-called “cioce”, that sheperds used to wear in the past.  Very well preserved acropolis dating from the age before Roman empire, old Benedictine abbeys, archeological sites and natural parks make this area very interesting to discover. Following the route of Cicerone, St. Thomas and St. Benedict go to visit Montecassino, Casamari, Subiaco and Anagni, the city of the Popes.
Fiuggi
Fiuggi is a small town in the centre of Ciociaria, a sort of green oasis where plenty of history is combined to modern congress venues.

The famous Fiuggi water was very well known since the middle age because of its curative use by the Pope Bonifacio VIII and Michelangelo Buonarroti.

Fiuggi is today one of the famous Spas of Italy, thanks to its scenery, the beauty of its old village and its Liberty buildings. But there are also modern congress structures and many hotel accommodations that Fiuggi has become a venue for national and international events.
